Vickie Jones, Middle School Principal
As winter is passing and spring is approaching, we need to reflect on what has happened during this school year and prepare students for the finish ahead. The winter athletic programs (girls & boys basketball, wrestling, and cheerleaders) are completing their final contests for the season. This year Meigs Middle School hosted a 7th & 8th Grade Basketball Tournament with teams from eight area schools participating. The tournament was packed with exciting competition and our own 7th grade girls captured second place. We want to congratulate all the students and coaches for their hard work and dedication and a season full of excitement and good competition.
Our eighth grade students took the Explorer Assessment in late February as the first step in their transition to high school. The results from the test will aid the high school guidance counselors in scheduling courses and assisting students in finding an educational path to lead to their future career choice. The actual scheduling process will begin soon, prior to the end of the school year.
Currently the staff is working vigorously to prepare students with vast amount of knowledge and skills they will need for the Ohio Achievement Assessment. This year’s testing window begins the week of April 22 – May 3. We ask parents to plan carefully appointments and other activities around the testing schedule, if at all possible, to allow their child to take the assessment at the scheduled date and time.
On the health front, just a reminder, the Meigs County Health Department holds immunization clinics on Tuesdays from 9-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. for children needing immunizations. All 6th graders will need the required T-dap immunization prior to entering 7th grade. If your child has received the T-dap immunization at another location, please provide a copy of the child’s updated immunization record to the school nurse prior to next school year.
Please check with your child for additional information concerning the numerous spring activities at Meigs Middle School including sports, trips, Relay for Life, and other events.
